11 Canvas

Welcome to our July Challenge.

Our theme for the month is a Canvas

We have two new team members to introduce to you today, and two lovely guests.

Before I get to that I am deeply saddened to say that, due to personal issues, this will be Claudia's last challenge with us. We very much hope that Claudia will be back from time to time to guest with us, but in the meantime we wish her all the very best, and thank her for all the fabulous things she has created for us.

We have thrown one of our newest members, Esther, in at the deep end and she will be choosing her Winner and Top 5 from all your fabulous entries for this challenge.

Instead of a physical prize this month we would like to offer our Winner a Guest Designer spot for a future challenge.

We hope our fabulous Design Team can inspire you. Please pop by their blogs and show them your appreciation

So to our newest two members of the Design Team, first up is Esther.

Hi  I’m Esther and I’m really excited to join the team here at The Mirror Crack’d. I live in a little country town in Suffolk, UK with my very patient partner Pete.  I’ve been crafting since I was a child trying most things from cross stitch, candle making and jewellery making until I discovered scrapbooking in 1997 - this led on to rubber stamping and more recently to mixed media. I consider myself relatively new to MM and am enjoying learning all the fab techniques (though I will soon need a bigger house for all the extra stash that seems to be appearing) I have a stressful full time job so crafting is my therapy and love getting messy with inks and paints. I'm really looking forward to being part of the team and seeing all your art work.

Canvas Journal page - I used a sheet of sticky back canvas as a base for a journal page, on to which I added ModRoc, texture paste and old book pages then used gelatos and stamping.

Our next new team member is Ngaere, and here is a short bio
DSC_0505
My name is Ngaere Bennetts and I live in Eltham which is a small town in the North Island of New Zealand. I have a son and daughter and four gorgeous grandsons.  I have been creating and crafting most of my life in one form or another.  I became fascinated with scrapbooking a number of years ago and after making scrapbooks for my kids and their children I began to experiment with mixed media. This has now become a passion.   I tend to have a unique perspective on things and usually end up making projects that are different in one way or another. I look at a project or material and think about how I can use it in a non traditional manner..  I love to recyle/upcycle items/ materials that would be normally thrown away into something unique and beautiful. I enjoy playing with new products and I believe in sharing what I learn with others.  I participate in several challenge blogs as I find it keeps my thinking fresh and It motivates me to stretch myself artisticly. I am looking forward to being part of the talented Design Team at The Mirror Crack'd. You can see more of work on my blog at nysbiz.blogspot,co,nz.

This project is made with a small canvas to raise the flower from the background and I also tore strips of canvas to add texture to the background.  Check out how I made in on my blog.

We also have two very talented Guest Designers this month firstly Ingrid who was our March winner
Ingrid Kristina V = a cardmaker, an amateur yet enthusiastic arstist and an explorer of all artistic :) If you visit my blog you will find anything from cards, journaling, fun tutorials, results of my experiments and wild ideas, but mainly mixed media projects. I love creating abstract art and mixed media is my most go to when I create. There is nothing more satisfying that creating various textures and patterns and adding colour with a dash of grunge. I tend to create rather organic patterns and love using anything naturally aged. Fabric and other materials are so much fun too! If you share my passion I would like to invite you to join my blog Ingrid's Crafts Corner. I also run a mixed media challenge blog Mixed Media World where my dear talented friends and I share our creations organise fun challenges for you to join. If you prefer cardmaking then simply purchase an issue of the wonderful UK nationwide magazine Simply Cards and Papercraft where I share my projects as a Designer.

and Ingrid's gorgeous canvas!
My art is mostly inspired by nature and natural changes. I love textures, colours and organic patterns. When I create I usually get inspiration from one or all of the above. To me there is nothing more beautiful than naturally aged and weathered objects. This canvas is very much inspired by fields and mid summer time. I am a big fan of abstract realism and tried to create just that for this month's theme 'Canvas'.
I picked a few dried grasses and weeds from my garden, used a white gesso to adhere them over some cheese cloth, added my beloved crackle paste & let it thoroughly dry... see, now I am getting excited... you can find out a bit more on my blog. Hope you like it :)

Thank you to Lin and her team for inviting me to share my arty crafty word with you. I hope you can join the challenge and be the artist that you are creating your very own masterpiece. i shall keep an eye out :)

and secondly Joi who was May’s winner
Hello to all my creative family.  Soooo hoping you had a happy and safe 4th of July holiday.

Today is exciting because it's guest designer day for me at The Mirror Cracked.  And best of all, the theme included working with a canvas so this was SUPER FUN for me!
All through my life I have done different types of crafting.  There was little money so I would decorate our home and give gifts from things that I made - usually redo's from garage sales!  However, it was only about 9 months ago that I began painting, doing mixed media, card making, stenciling and stamping.  I have spent endless hours watching videos and figuring out what to use when, where, how and why!!!  I now... I am so happy and blessed to be a part of this wonderful world of creating art.  I hope you enjoy the project
and Joi's amazing canvas
I created for you.  Just a piece of Americana from the heart.
Please, visit my blog to see more pictures and info on how I created this mixed media on canvas. Truly it would mean a lot to me to see your comments and for you to become a follower too!!!

Thanks bunches and bunches to wonderful The Mirror Cracked team for this honor. Hugs. j.
Finally over to our regular team!

Elaine aka Ellapu
Steampunk canvas

I had fun with this challenge, I used brayering paint techniques, a variety of stencils, texture paste and glass beads!
All will be revealed on my blog.

Claudia
I created a set of three mini canvasses on which I built up layers from old book pages, scraped on Gesso and acrylic paint, stencilled texture and rubber stamping.

Lula
I made my canvas with lots of stenciled texture paste, neon Gelatos and old paint tubes

Summertime - Time for vacation, sun and dreams around the world
My canvas was made with spray inks, an old map, stamps and stencils.

Angela
Beyond Time Canvas - I made this canvas by applying Tissue Paper and then building up the texture with pastes and embellishments, covered these with inks and paints then finished with Treasure Gold. The hanger at the top is a small door handle. More details are available on my blog. would love you to pop over.

My canvas is so basic compared to the rest of my fabulous team, but was just as hard work as I don't have a drawing or painting bone in my body! Details on my blog

Carole

I combined printable canvas (photos of flowers from my garden) with a large canvas painted with black gesso, Pebeo Pearl Paints and texture paste. All topped off with painted string and wooden butterflies!

Rita Marie
Hi everyone!  The canvas is just a little cheap canvas I had left over from a workshop I did... I covered it first with white gesso then the water colours I made very runny and sprayed the background with water so the colours would run... Then once dried I sketch my girl with her bird... I used white gesso mixed with water colour crayons for the rest. The stars are done with gold and black acrylics and markers... I hope this inspires!  If you would like to see more of my artwork please check out my Blog ...     Love & Hugs! Thank you...
Hi my dear crafty friends. This time I used my canvas not as usual. For that cute little birdie I turned it around and worked on the backside. For more information you are welcome to visit my blog. Have fun creating your own canvas!

Jolanda
I made this canvas for my husband (on the picture he's 8 years old:0)
I used napkins, mod podge, structure paste, stamps, distress paint & ink...
More details on my blog!

Phew that was some LONGGGG post!

We look forward to seeing all your fabulous canvasses.
